This Learn to Canoe FREE event is in partnership with Parks Canada! Family Friendly! Ages 5+ (with an adult). Learn-To Paddle activity: Canoe experience takes place for groups of 2 paddlers, one of whom is a responsible adult. Children over 10 can be considered paddlers.

Learn to Paddle (Canoe)

We’re teaming up with Parks Canada to bring you a low-cost, high-vibe canoe lesson right in the city. Whether you’ve never paddled before or just want to feel more confident on the water, this is your moment. No gear? No experience? No problem. Just pull up!


Since this is a free event, we kindly ask that if you are unable to attend, you inform us in advance to allow others the opportunity to participate. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

What to expect:

  • Certified Parks Canada instructors to guide you

  • Official Routes to Rootz crew on-site to support

  • 2 hours of hands-on, beginner-friendly canoe instruction

  • Chill pace, solid skills, beautiful scenery

  • Real community vibes on the water

What’s Included

Your ticket includes:

  • All canoe equipment (life jacket, paddle, boat)

  • Parks Canada certified instruction

  • Routes to Rootz guide and support

  • 1.5hour lesson

  • Connection to water, nature, and community

  • $90+ value for a super affordable fee


What to Wear

Dress for comfort, movement, and the weather. You might get splashed!

  • Base Layer: Moisture-wicking T-shirt or tank

  • Bottoms: Athletic pants, shorts, or leggings

  • Footwear: Sport sandals or water-friendly shoes

  • Accessories: Cap, sunglasses, optional gloves


🎒 What to Pack

  • Water bottle

  • Healthy snack (granola bar, fruit, veggies)

  • Towel

  • Bug spray

  • Rain jacket (weather can flip fast)

  • Change of clothes (just in case)
